When medical care cannot offer a cure, hospice services provide care, comfort and support for seniors with life-limiting conditions. The hospice team works to make the senior comfortable and relieve their symptoms and pain for the entire length of their illness. Hospice teams can have a facility that looks like a nursing home, or the team can work as a hospice agency that provides hospice services inside someone's home. Taking care of someone at their residence is called "home hospice." To receive hospice care, a doctor must state that death can be expected within 6 months if the disease follows its normal course. This does not mean that care will only be provided for 6 months; hospice can be provided as long as the person's doctor and hospice team certifies that their condition remains life limiting.
Hospice care is a family-centered team approach that includes, a doctor, nurse, social worker, counselor, chaplain, and a home health aide. They work together focusing on the dying senior's needs physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. The goal is to keep the senior as pain and symptom-free as possible.
Home hospice agencies provide help and support as someone needs it. It is medical in nature and does not include being in the home everyday to assist the senior with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and toileting. Private duty home care is an option that supports the senior and their family at a time when the burdens and chores of everyday living need to be lifted so the family can enjoy their time without the stress of maintaining a household, cooking, and tending to personal grooming for the dying senior.
At Abby Senior Care our caregivers and CNAs are experienced with hospice services and focus our attention on balancing the medical hospice services the senior is receiving and supporting the entire family in their time of need. We can provide home care services three hours a day, several days a week, up to 24-hour continuous service. Our care plans are flexible to accommodate the changes and challenges that arise during hospice care.
