Abby Senior Care
Understanding the Process

Americans are very independent people. We work hard and have an enormous amount of freedom. As we age or if we become ill, our world can start to become smaller. We cannot do the things we once did for ourselves or we exhaust ourselves doing "chores." Seniors especially do not have the Abby Senior Care assists the independent living seniors who need a little help and to enjoy the things they used to enjoy. With stress it's common to lose interest in once enjoyable activities and we find it harder to get through the day. Over work and over worry about how each day is going to unfold affects every aspect of our lives, including appetite, sleep, and relationships.

By helping with everyday chores, what we call "activities of daily living," our caregivers enable you or your loved one to maintain their normal daily routines. Abby Senior Care caregivers provide service to seniors on an hourly or live-in basis. Seniors receive the support they need without leaving the comfort of their home. Home care extends outside the home also. Our caregivers can provide transportation to doctor's visits, social outings, and do errands.

How does it work?

The process starts when you call the Abby Senior Care office and ask for home care information. One of our staff members will answer your questions on the phone and send you a packet of information in the mail about how to schedule a caregiver and what the cost is. If you are ready to talk about a specific home care plan for yourself or a loved one you can also set an appointment for a home care assessment by one of our Case Managers on the first call. It's free and there is no obligation and we will bring the packet of information to your home. You can also request information through this website on the "Contact Us" page.

Why do you do an assessment visit? Can't I just call-up whenever I need help?

Abby Senior Care is licensed and overseen by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. This insures quality and consistency for you. The Department requires we do an assessment visit to be sure you get all the information you need to make a good decision and we get to know you and create a plan that works well. We can start service as soon as the next day or whenever you may need us in the future.

Is there a long-term contract?

There is no contract, no long-term commitment, and you can change shifts with a 24-hour notice. Many Abby Senior Care clients have a caregiver for a few hours twice a week, some only during the night, others only on weekends or up to 24/7. At Abby Senior Care we are flexible and happy to provide home care wherever and whenever needed. This includes hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living communities, and group homes. The advantage of home care over an assisted living facility or nursing home is that you can get and pay for exactly what you want on your schedule and if your needs change – we change right along with you.

How do I know who you will send to my home?

Our care coordinators get to know you and your family personally and will be sure you always know who your caregiver is going to be. We make every effort to assign the same caregiver to you or your loved one when you have a repeating schedule. If for any reason you would like a different caregiver, we are happy to work with you to find the person. We guarantee you will be happy at Abby Senior Care.

Our caregivers and CNAs (certified nurse assistants) are bonded, insured, and receive on-going training. We also use psychological testing to help us hire only those caregivers who meet our standards for compassion, patience, honesty, integrity, and work ethic.

What can I expect the caregiver to do when they come to my home?

After we do the home care assessment we create a care plan that includes the services you want. The plan may include:

  • Cooking and light housekeeping
  • Laundry and change of bed linens
  • Grocery shopping and errands
  • Companionship and range of motion exercise
  • Bathing, dressing and grooming assistance
  • Transportation to doctor appointments, supermarket, pharmacy
  • Assisting with walking and transfer from bed to wheelchair
  • Status reporting to family
  • Medication reminders

If what you need on any day is not on your plan, feel free to ask the caregiver to perform the task for you. We will add it to your plan in the future.

There are a couple of things we don't do such as deep cleaning. So, if you need the bathroom tiles scrubbed, snow shoveled, or windows cleaned we will be glad to refer you to a trusted partner we know will do a good job for you. Also, we are not a medical agency so we do not change bandages or treat wounds. If you need this kind of care we have medical partners we can put you in touch with whom we work closely with to coordinate your overall care.

What do I do if there is a problem with the caregiver or I need to change the schedule?

Just call us! We only have one telephone number and you will reach a live person 24/7 who can help you with whatever you need.
